Scream

By: Gabe Schmidt

I was looking through every classroom door frantically, and checking behind my back every minute. Is he here? I kept tip toeing through the hallways peering my head in the classrooms. Where is she! There is no way I’m leaving school without her.

I could hear screaming from the vents. Then, In desperation. I heard one last scream. It sounded like she was in trouble. Then, Silence. Nothing.

I scurried from where I was standing, repeating in my head. “Please don’t be dead, please don’t be dead!” I heard over the speakers in a low and crackly voice, “…If you shall want this girl to live I strongly suggest you to come to the main lobby.” As the message trailed off I was frozen in my tracks. Speechless.

We were just coming to school for supplies. Why is this happening? Why now?

My mom had recently two days ago, received a message from the doctors saying she has stage 3 breast cancer. So me and Shelly came to school to get supplies. We wanted to make her a card, and throw in some flowers. As soon as we got into the school I was walking to my classroom. 8th grade number 1, with my sister right behind me. I asked Shelly, “Do you know any other classroom that might have colored glue? Or glitter glue?” No response, I turn around. “Shelly? Shelly!”

I stood there in my tracks, frozen. Not knowing what to do… I heard screams coming from what it felt like, Down the hall.

I started tracing my tracks. How in the world could she be gone! Where could she even be? I called out, “Shelly! Shelly!!!” There was a whispered voice through the vents, “Help… Help… Hurr.” The voice was cut off. Silence, Nothing.

I heard a final scream with the erupting sound of a chainsaw… Then I knew, at that moment. She was gone.
